Environment

At Franke, we’re taking responsibility across our entire value chain. Our goal is clear: reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, using 2020 as our base year. To get there, we’re improving energy efficiency, transforming our operations, and working closely with suppliers across the globe.

Science-Based Targets

Franke's near-term and net-zero greenhouse emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), setting a cornerstone in our sustainability journey.

The climate science from the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Sixth Assessment Report – described by the United Nations as “code red for humanity” – underscores that while limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C is still technically possible, the window for action is rapidly closing.

Franke is proud to be a part of the  United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Race to Zero campaign. We are joined by many forward-looking companies who have also set science-based targets, working collectively to safeguard wellbeing of future generations.

Here are Franke’s targets as validated by the SBTi.

Overall net-zero target

Franke commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain by 2050 from a 2020 base year.

Near-term targets

  • Franke commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 56% by 2030 from a 2020 base year*.
  • Franke also commits that 74% of its customers by emissions covering use of sold products, will have science-based targets by 2028.
  • Franke further commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution 32.5% by 2033 from a 2020 base year.

Long-term targets

  • Franke commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2020 base year*.
  • Franke also commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe.
  • *The target boundary includes biogenic land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

    Achieving the targets

    Scope 1 and 2

Franke will focus efforts on its most emission-intensive sites and facilities, with a variety of measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and operational environmental performance.

Bar chart "Development of target and actual emissions (Scope 1 and 2)". Actual emissions fall from around 41,000 tCO₂e (2020) to about 23,000 (2025), staying consistently below the target path, which declines to roughly 18,000 tCO₂e by 2030

Our focus areas for Scope 1 and 2

    • Increase photovoltaic generation capacity
    • Expand waste heat-recovery capacity
    • Conduct in-depth energy audits at key plants
    • Invest into energy-efficient machinery and machinery upgrades
    • Digitalization of key production processes
    • Introducing real-time Track & Trace solutions within the manufacturing process
    • Pro-active interaction and sustainability roundtables with key customers and suppliers
    • Partner with technology suppliers to further optimize energy consumption

    Scope 3

Franke's largest Scope 3 emissions result from to the use of sold products (category 11), followed by the purchased goods and services (category 1). Other significant contributors include capital goods (category 2) and upstream transportation and distribution (category 4).

Table "Scope 3 CO₂e distribution of emissions" with figures for 2025 and 2024. Total Scope 3 emissions fell by 20.2%, from 18,968,487 to 15,137,386 t CO₂e. The largest item is the use of sold products (13,682,466 t, −21.1%).

Our focus areas for Scope 3

    • Switch to low-carbon raw materials
    • Replace packaging with reusable and/or recyclable alternatives
    • Reduce footprint in machinery and capital investments
    • Continuously improve the energy efficiency of our products
    • Assess fleet electrification and warehouse optimization opportunities
    • Engage in circularity and decarbonization projects with suppliers and customers
    • Promote product longevity through repairability and end-of-life solutions
    • Offer green product lines to customers

    Recognition of our environmental progress

We also raised our CDP Climate Change Score from C to B, and our CDP Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) score from D to A.²

CDP is a global environmental disclosure platform that assesses companies’ disclosures and actions on climate change, water security, and deforestation. These improvements reflect our transition from awareness to action across our own operations and in our engagement with key suppliers.

¹ In 2026, Franke Group received an EcoVadis Bronze rating following the annual assessment process. The Silver rating reported here relaes to the 2025 assessment period.

² CDP's Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) was known as 'Supplier Engagement Rating' (SER) in 2023.
