Perfectly balanced building architecture and interior design Modern comfort concept for daily school life In a picturesque setting above the Upper Bavarian community of Murnau am Staffelsee. Visitors can discover a collection of buildings that uniquely reflects the cubic architecture trend. The chosen concept bears the hallmark of renowned architectural firm Harter & Kanzler, based in Freiburg (Germany). Clear contours enclosed in a warm wooden design, which is spaciously and openly designed, with an expansive view over the impressive scenery of the mountainous Alpine landscape. Every day, around 650 young people attend the educational institution here – one that is surely among the most picturesque in the “Blue Land”.
The state secondary school in Murnau was founded in 2010 and expanded in two construction stages at the end of 2016. Franke contributed with the plumbing work involved in the expansion, providing fitting elements that are optimally designed for extremely heavy use during term time and comply with the high standards of hygiene imposed on public buildings. What's more, Franke ensured that the quality of materials used and the design of the fittings complemented the overall visual look and feel of the modern building complex. “When planning plumbing concepts for public or semi-public spaces, safe and practical use is always our top priority. Additionally, our solutions should support the operator in their efforts to maintain public safety,” explains Armin Stoll, the architect responsible for this project at the Harter & Kanzler office in Freiburg.
When designing the exterior of the school premises, the architects combined functional, linear construction elements in an expansive area using open spaces and staircases. Light and transparency dominate the spacious rooms inside the buildings, enclosed in a gallery-like style. The sports hall was designed along the same lines – skylights and large glass panels ensure that plenty of natural light reaches the showers and changing rooms. The furnishings are modern and clean, with a total of 14 shower areas which provide plenty of capacity. The high-quality Franke plumbing fixtures are optimally integrated into this space, from the washbasin (with electronic brassware) and shower fittings to the paper towel and soap dispensers.
Economic and increasingly environmental aspects play an important role in water management for public institutions. Design-specific considerations are usually put on the back burner. In this context, the Murnau school project really shows the long-lasting effects that a well-coordinated choice of components can have – by successfully combining the architecture of the building and the internal fittings, we have created a comfortable atmosphere that benefits everyone.” Armin StollArchitect at Harter & Kanzler in Freiburg.
Designed with drinking water hygiene in mind, the choice of material, type of construction and automated water supply control using the Aqua 3000 open drinking water management system. All of which combine to form an efficient and safe system that ensures the installation operates in compliance with all applicable hygiene requirements. With the implementation of a new pipeline network designed to meet users' needs, the planners have already created favourable conditions for the use of the installation.
