What makes your kitchen wonderful?

My Wonderful Kitchen

THINK ABOUT YOUR KITCHEN...

The hub of the home. What makes it wonderful?

Each month we will be featuring a different personality from various professions who will each give us an insight into their wonderful kitchen.

Our first personality was Nadia Damaso, food blogger and author of bestselling book, Eat Better, Not Less.

During March we featured Kate Richardson-Walsh, gold medal winning Olympian, in April Mark Wilkinson, and in May Sherrie Hewson, Actress, Presenter and TV Personality and Michael Lammel, Co-founder of NOA Design. In June we featured Jim Buttress, Holder of the RHS Victorian Medal of Honour, RHS judge, horticulturist, TV and radio presenter, and in July Suzy Atkins, Wine writer, broadcaster, author and the weekly wine columnist for the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

Now it's the turn of Norman Calder, Great British Bake Off Hero and Professional Baker.

Norman Calder

My Wonderful Kitchen

"My kitchen is a place of refuge."

I can escape from the trials of life in my kitchen. If I have any worries or concerns, they disappear as soon as I close the door. My kitchen quite easily takes care of my creative urge and this is always an uplifting experience.

It helps me recall the many cooking programmes I’ve seen over the years. I will always be grateful to my hero and outstanding television chef, Keith Floyd, who taught me how to cook with wine - you drink most of it!

Susy Atkins

My Wonderful Kitchen

"I love my kitchen for its versatility."

It’s a proper family kitchen where lots of big hearty meals are cooked and enjoyed by my husband and teenagers, and it’s also home to our boisterous labradoodle Truman. But when I’m working it becomes my own tasting room.

With wide windows on to the garden to let in maximum light, plus a huge sink and plenty of tasting glasses to hand, I can assess new wines properly and practise matching them with the dishes I’m conjuring up at the oven. With my notebook open on the kitchen table, it becomes my office.

Jim Buttress

My Wonderful Kitchen

“My kitchen is where all my fresh home grown vegetables and herbs come together to make deliciously healthy dishes.”

I’ve been involved in horticulture for over 60 years, both growing and judging plants and vegetables. Growing and encouraging people to grow has been my passion in life. At the end of the cultivation process what more could you want for than naturally grown, freshly picked herbs and vegetables prepared and cooked in your own kitchen. My kitchen is so important to me; it’s the final stage where all that horticultural effort cumulates in satisfyingly, delicious, healthy food.

Sherrie Hewson

My Wonderful Kitchen

“All is right with the world when I am in my kitchen, the fire is lit and I am cuddled up on my sofa with my dog Peggy”

My kitchen is a living room where people cook. It has deep comfortable sofas, a large table and a log burning fire. The glass double doors look on to rolling fields with cows, sheep and an array of other wildlife.

Why would I want to watch TV when I have this amazing view right outside my window? All is right with the world when I am in my kitchen, the fire is lit and I am cuddled up on my sofa with my dog Peggy, a cup of tea and a chocolate Hobnob.”

Michael Lammel

My Wonderful Kitchen

“My kitchen is like a stage for my personal play, it’s the place where things happen.”

Preparing delicious and healthy food, chatting with family and friends whilst enjoying a glass of wine, or even a place to create inspiring new ideas for my work while having an espresso.

My kitchen is a transforming space which acts and reacts perfectly to my needs. One moment I feel like the chef in a trendy cooking show, the next I imagine I am in my design studio.

Co-founder of NOA Design

Kate Richardson-Walsh

My Wonderful Kitchen

“The perfect environment for family, friends, love, laughter and, of course, great food.”

To visit my kitchen is to fall in love with it. Challenged by a low beamed ceiling I chose to eschew wall units in favour of a fully shelved walk-in larder/pan store, allowing me to clothe the walls in art, thus complementing the wonderful craftsmanship of the kitchen’s wooden construction. Now, when allied with the wafting aromas of baking from my daughter’s, my wife Cynthia’s and my own culinary potterings, it all adds up to make the perfect environment for family, friends, love, laughter and, of course, great food.

Mark Wilkinson,  OBE

Mark Wilkinson sadly passed away on 5th July 2017. One of the most highly respected names in the kitchen industry, we are very privileged to have had his collaboration in our campaign.

Nadia Damaso

My Wonderful Kitchen

“I couldn’t imagine a better place than my kitchen!
I’m absolutely in love with every single corner of it!”

As soon as I enter my kitchen, I feel like I’m in a world full of new tastes, colours, spices and textures. The ideas for new creations are just sparkling around and fill the kitchen with warmth, love & excitement to get cooking and try out something new. That’s only possible with a great kitchen that gives you space, has a lot of daylight and lets your imagination run wild.
