Sinks
Are all sinks available in left hand and right hand drainer format?

All Franke sinks are available as right-hand or left-hand drainer - where a sink is only available in one format this is always specified on the Specification Sheet and in our brochure. Reversible sinks automatically offer that choice.

Are plumbing kits included?

Generally you will need to purchase a Siphon I, II or III part plumbing kit (depending on the number of sink bowls) when ordering your sink with your retailer.

Can I fit a Waste Disposal unit in my Franke sink?

Yes. Any sink that has a 3 1/2“ waste (90mm) is capable of having a waste disposal unit connected. For Franke ceramic sinks an Extended Flange is available for Continuous Feed models. If your sink has an overflow you may need to purchase a WDU Overflow Converter.

You can view videos on Franke Waste Disposal Units on our YouTube channel.

How do I clean the overflow?

Many Franke sinks come with a Hygienic Overflow, which offers versatility for cleaning. Simple removal of the logo plate reveals the overflow aperture for easy, hygienic cleaning. Most Franke sinks have rigid overflow pipes and can be cleaned by pouring boiling water into them. Alternatively use a proprietary cleaner.

How do I apply earthing to a Franke sink?

Despite any regulatory enforcement, in common with many sink manufacturers Franke make provision for a mechanical bond to be made to inset sink models. This is often done by utilising one of the cut-out points for the clips along the length of the clip rail. In the case of sliding clips Franke make a hole at the end of the clip rail length where the bond can be accommodated.

How do I fit undermounted sinks?

This depends on the worktop but we would recommend that you seek professional advice. A template and fixing clips are provided in the box. Some circumstances may allow for fitting a bowl directly to the worktop. Alternatively a plywood template can be made to the size of the sink, which will effectively 'sandwich' the sink flange, when addressed to the underside of the material. We would recommend the use of a sealant between the flange of the sink and the worktop to avoid any water ingress. In all cases you are advised to consult your supplier.

I am thinking of installing a topmount stainless steel sink into a solid surface worktop, is there anything I need to consider?

You should take into consideration the position of the overflow in the sink, as your worktop fabricator may need to router out the worktop material to accommodate it. Call our Customer Service team and we can advise you.

What is the warranty on Franke sinks?

Franke sinks come with a 50 year against manufacturing defect.

Should I use a plastic washing up bowl with my Franke sink?

We would always recommend that you avoid the use of a plastic washing up bowl as this will over time cause the development of regular abrasion marks over the sink's surface.

Where can I see a colour sample of a sink?

You can find colour samples for our sinks at your local retailer.

Why have I only received 1 waste with my 1 1/2 bowl inset sink?

Generally, Basket Strainer Wastes are put with a sink by a distributor when an order is received from a retailer. You should contact your retailer and they will be able to contact their distributor accordingly.

Can I stop my stainless steel sink from scratching?

No. Stainless Steel will always scratch (whether it be of Franke's manufacture or competitor) and because of the directional polishing marks on many Franke models the scratching will show up quite dramatically initially. However, with use and cleaning using a proprietary cleaner such as Franke Stainless Steel Cleaner the stainless steel will eventually build up a patina over the years and the scratching marks will not be as evident.

What's the best product to use to stop my stainless steel sink from scratching?

Franke Stainless Steel Cleaner is recommended for regular maintenance of stainless steel sinks. This cleaner is easy to apply; just spread a small amount on a damp cloth, and distribute it throughout the sink with minor circular motions. Leave to work for a few moments and rinse with clean water. Afterwards, polish with a dry cloth - the Franke Microfiber Cloth is ideal.

How can I remove 'rust spots' from my new stainless steel sink?

Your sink is made from high quality 18/10 chrome nickel steel. That means it’s metallurgically incapable of rusting or corroding in normal household conditions. If rust and corrosion problems do occur, tiny iron particles deposited on the surface will be the culprit. These either come from the water supply or are left behind by wire scouring pads or utensils. It’s essential to clean off these filings and dry the sink thoroughly afterwards. If you let them stick around, they’ll cause rust.

If you want to remove any rust stains from your products, we recommend using a cleaning agent containing oxalic acid (e.g. Bar Keepers Friend®). Always use mild, non-abrasive cleaning agents such as Franke Stainless Steel Sink Cleaner to remove stubborn stains from your stainless steel and make sure you thoroughly rinse away any cleaning liquids once finished. Oh, one more thing, when cleaning your stainless steel, NEVER USE STEEL WOOL PADS. We, and our stainless steel, thank you in advance.

We would point out that unless the particles are completely removed they will return. It is therefore very important that after cleaning the sink, it is dried thoroughly - a Franke Microfiber Cloth is ideal. This process needs to continue until the problem disappears. The problem is sometimes particularly obstinate to remove and it may take several attempts to restore the sink to its pristine condition.

How do I best clean my stainless steel sink?

Discoloration and most marks on stainless steel are caused by water-borne deposits clinging to its surface. One of the best ways to keep your stainless steel sink in pristine condition is to clean it with a product such as Franke Stainless Steel Cleaner, which can be purchased here. How do I find out which cut-out dimensions are necessary for my Franke stainless steel sink?

As a general guide, cut inside the overall frame dimension (by inverting the sink on the worktop) by 8mm all round and always use a 20mm (important!) radius at the corners. Cut out sizes are shown on the specification sheet for each sink. If a template is provided, please use that.

How do you determine the capacity of the sink?

The 3 basic measurements for comparing sink sizes are:

  • Depth – distance from the top of the rim to the bottom of the sink next to the waste
  • Taper – inward slope of each side of the sink from rim to bottom
  • Radius – measure of the bowl’s corners & bottoms where the sides and bottom meet

The deeper the bowl, the straighter the slope and the tighter (smaller) the radius, the more capacity there is in the sink.

How do I best clean my Fragranite sink?

Your Franke Fragranite sink is manufactured to the highest possible standards. To maintain its good looks, Franke suggests you follow these guidelines.

Franke Fragranite Sinks are extremely durable and non-porous making them long-lasting and very hygienic. This also means cleaning them is quite simple too. Most deposits can be removed with soap or detergent and hot water followed by a clean water rinse.

Clean off heavy staining liquids such as dyes and vegetable juices as soon as possible. Then remove any remaining marks using Franke Coloured Sink Cleaner.

It is also good practice to then dry the sink with a soft cloth - such as a Franke Microfiber Cloth - as otherwise limescale can build up on the surface.

Avoid the use of a plastic washing up bowl however as this will over time cause the development of regular abrasion marks over the sink's surface.

How do I knock out a tap hole in a topmount Fragranite sink?

1. Ensure colour sticker is in centre of pre-formed taphole
2. Follow the description line drawings shown on the template, or:

3.1 Take sink out of box and rest the sink vertically against your legs with the face of the sink facing outwards and ensuring the taphole is for the correct hand drainer (take care not to damage the edge of the sink in the process);
3.2 Take a centre punch and place on the centre of the colour sticker;
3.3 Strike the punch hard with a hammer - this will result in the core of the tap hole being knocked out;
3.4 Finish off using the ball of the hammer and using a round file.

Taps
Can all taps be used in conjunction with a combi boiler?

Not necessarily. You are advised to check with the manufacturer.

How can I prevent my tap 'flexing' on my stainless steel sink?

Occasionally a heavy tap can 'flex' on some large stainless steel sinks. This can be rectified by your tap being braced, and it is not unusual for people to have this kind of problem with a stainless steel sink, and is not a problem emanating from the sink or tap being defective in any way.

To brace the tap, you either need a piece of wood or chipboard which can be screwed across the underside of the worktop cutout and the existing tap can be fixed through a hole in this, or you can utilise a tap brace. In this way the tap is effectively secured to the underside of the strut and not to the underside of the sink, and this reduces any tendency for the sink to flex when the tap is turned on or off.

Franke also produce a patented Tap Brace which will provide a solution to the problem of 'flexing' of heavy taps on some stainless steel sink models. Fitting directly to the worktop, the tap brace has a variable collar which fits all models of taps.

How do I best clean taps?

Clean using hot soapy water.

Avoid using scourers or abrasive materials.

We recommend using our Franke Tap Cleaner together with Franke Microfiber Cloth to clean Franke taps.

Simply spray Franke Tap Cleaner onto your tap, leave to work for a few moments, then wipe with a Franke Microfiber Cloth.

Never apply abrasive detergents, disinfectants or products containing alcohol, hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid.

You can view a video of how to clean your Franke tap on our YouTube channel.

How do I remove a spout on a Franke tap?

Tap spouts are most commonly removed by:

1.Undo the grub screw at the back of the tap
2.Unscrew the collar at the joint with the body
3.Located lug in bayonet

Is water pressure critical when I choose a particular Franke tap?

Flow rate can be affected particularly on the hot side of traditional vented plumbing systems. We do not recommend ceramic disc taps where there is less than 4 metre head of water. For combi boiler installations check with the manufacturer.

What dimensions of tailpipes do Franke taps have?

Check the specification sheet for your particular tap. Generally they are 15mm.

What is the warranty on Franke taps?

Franke taps all come with a 15 year warranty. Click here for detailed information on tap guarantees.

Where can I see a sink/tap similar to the one I am considering?

You can view all our products in our product explorer or visit your local retailer to see the products in person.

I have moved house - why does the water taste and smell different?

The makeup of water (including the levels of chlorine) varies from area to area and this will mean that the water may taste or smell slightly different from the water that you were used too. Another reason may be due to our having to alter the treatment process slightly depending on the weather, demand and time of year. These factors all affect the levels of chlorine that we must add to the water which in turn will slightly affect the taste and smell.

Why does my water taste salty?

Incorrectly installed water softeners, fitted to washing machines for example, can cause salty tastes and contaminate the drinking water supply. Do not drink water from water softeners because it contains high levels of salt – you should always use a tap with unsoftened water for cooking and drinking.

Why does my water have a TCP / metallic taste?

There are several possible causes of unusual tastes or odours in water:

TCP tastes can occur when the internal stop tap has been operated to carry out any work, or if the tap is operated after many years of not being used. Washers can start can start to degrade over time and cause TCP taste and odour problems. However this applies more to properties where the internal stop tap is more than a few years old and is seldom or never used.

Since TCP like compounds are formed when the chlorine reacts with plastic or rubber, this sometimes means that the TCP taste is more noticeable when the Chlorine level is highest. Although Chlorine is added to water continually a demand for water can mean that it may sometimes have a higher level of chlorine in it, for example, in the morning or when you get home from work.

How do I care for my glass chopping board?

Please note the following points:

Place the foodstuff to process in the middle of the chopping board, not on the side. The chopping board might tip if pressure is applied to one side only.

Do not use knives made of ceramic material as this may cause damage to the surface.

The chopping board consists of tempered safety glass and is more shock and heat resistant than ordinary glass products.

Do not expose the chopping board to temperatures below 0°C or over 80°C. Do not use the product on hot plates or in ovens, microwaves, freezers or dishwashers.

Cleaning and care:

Normal staining can be removed with soap and water. Tenacious staining of the worktop should be removed with a glass rubber and then treated with a mild detergent.

Do not use cleaning products for glass ceramic hobs as these products should not come into direct contact with foodstuff.

Do not use abrasives (liquids or sponges) or aggressive detergents such as cleaning spray for ovens, bleach or other chemicals.

Franke is not liable for damage caused by improper or unsuitable use and non-compliance to the above cleaning instructions.

How do I care for my wooden food preparation platter?

Wood is a natural product it is therefore subject to absorbing moisture, and if the quantities of moisture are not equal on both sides it can bow especially so when the product is first used.

However, this can be corrected by wetting the board on both sides and leaving it to dry overnight on a flat surface with the convex side uppermost. This is most conveniently done with the board placed over the bowl. This enables the warp to drop out and as the board gets more use it will eventually stop warping. We also recommend occasional oiling of the board with a good quality vegetable oil, to make the surface more water-resistant. Do not put the board near a heat source and do not put it in direct sunlight to dry.

How do I care for my plastic coated drainer basket?

The life of the basket very much depends on the type of use it receives, and we notice that some customers choose to use the basket in the sink for washing-up purposes (for which it was not designed). If the basket is used in this way its life is considerably shortened due to the constant immersion in hot water. This softens the plastic coating which then becomes susceptible to piercing by sharp objects such as knives, forks etc. When water penetrates onto the metal frame it rusts and subsequently the plastic coating cracks and breaks away and if used in this manner it does mean that the life of the basket is considerably shortened.

How do I solve clogging issues with my soap dispenser?

You may wish to add water to thicker concentrated liquid soaps, in a 1/3 water to 2/3 ratio to reduce the possibility of clogging. Regular cleaning of the soap dispenser is also recommended.

What kind of soap should I be using in my Franke soap dispenser?

You should avoid anti-bacterial soaps, as these can cause corrosion of your dispenser over time.

I have a problem with my Franke cooktop, how can I get it repaired?

For warranty and non-warranty repairs please contact our customer service team.

Why is the burner's flame not burning on my gas cooktop?

To turn on any burner equipped with a safety valve, press down and hold down the knob for 5 seconds. If doing so, the flame is not lit, then check that the gas outlet holes at the safety thermocouple are not accidentally obstructed. In this case, rinse the burner components and dry them with a cloth.

How does the safety valve of a gas cooktop work?

The safety valve is a device that protects against accidental gas leakage. Through the operation of a thermocouple the gas passage is blocked in the event of an abnormal shutdown of the flame due to, for example, liquid overflow or an air flow.

Why is my gas cooktop burner flame not turning on?

When the burner is turned on you should hear the ceramic candle discharge noise ("tic tic"). If this is not the case, check the presence of the power supply. Check if the plate and the spreader are incorrectly positioned on the burner. Also check that the white ceramic spark plug that provides the spark is not dirty and therefore unable to discharge the spark on the spark flame. In this case, the candle must be cleaned with a damp cloth and dried.

If the burner flame does not turn on, check first if the plate and the spreader are incorrectly positioned on the burner. Also check that the white ceramic spark plug that kindens the spark is not dirty and therefore can not discharge the spark on the spark flame. In this case, the candle must be cleaned with a damp cloth and dried.

I can hear a continuous "tic tic" noise coming from my gas cooktop, what can I do?

This noise is generated by the electric ignition candle discharge. It may have dampened, due to fluid overflow, the cooktop area containing the ignition control unit. Try to disconnect and leave the power supply unplugged for a day. If the problem persists, contact our customer service team.

How do I clean the cast iron parts of my gas cooktop?

For proper maintenance, the cast iron parts of your gas cooktop should always be hand-washed with a neutral detergent. Washing in the dishwasher is not recommended as this is too aggressive and would cause opacity on the cast iron surface.

Can I connect my Franke gas cooktop to LPG gas?

Franke gas cooktops are designed for operation with both natural gas and LPG gas. When installing, replace the nozzles mounted on the burners with the special nozzles for LPG gas. The burners do not need any air regulation as they are self-regulating. We recommend this is done by a qualified installer.

How do I adjust the burner flame on my gas cooktop?

Franke gas cooktops are tested at 20 mbar pressure to be used with natural gas. In the case of other types of gas, the burner flames must be adjusted. Adjustment modes are given in the instruction manual supplied with the cooktop.

Is it possible to use a Franke induction cooktop with a power of 3 kW?

Induction cooktops generally have an absorption higher than the power of 3 kW available at home. However, to allow the use and containment of Franke consumptions (on some models of the range) it allows the setting of the highest absorption level of the induction cooktop. It is logical that reducing power limits the ability to exploit the product to maximum performance.

Why does my induction cooktop cooking zone not activate when using a small pan?

Induction cooktops require the cooking pot or saucepan to have a diameter bigger than a certain dimension, which is specified on the product instruction booklet.

How does an induction cooktop work?

The induction cooktop operates by means of a magnetic field that generates heat on the bottom of the pot when the latter is placed in contact with the surface of the plane. The pot used on this type of cooking stove must be made of special material containing iron and its bottom must be smooth for optimum yield of the inducer. Non-magnetic, aluminum or copper stainless steel pans as well as terracotta or ceramic pans are not suitable for use with induction.

What are the benefits of using an induction cooktop?

The great benefit of an induction cooktop is fast cooking times. For example, boiling water for making pasta is much quicker than using a gas cooktop. Other benefits include the easy to clean flat glass surface. Another important factor is the digital touch controls for maximum safety and the various customisable cooking zone options.

What is the best way to clean the surface of an induction cooktop?

We advise you to clean your cooktop when the surface is still warm and the residual heat indicator lamps are off. Firstly, use a scraper to remove any food residue, taking care not to scratch the surface of the glass; then rinse with water and dry well with a clean cloth.

I want to use a pan that is larger than one zone. How do I activate the bridging zone function?

The bridging function allows two individual cooking zones to be switched on and adjusted together. Ensure that the power is switched on and simply press in the middle of the power scale of each zone simultaneously, this will show a"[" on one side and "]" on the other to signify the zones are bridged.

My cooktop makes a buzzing noise when in use. Is this normal?

It is normal for the cooktop to produce humming sounds when boiling or cooking. Different types of cookware may produce slight sounds such as buzzes or hums. Lighter weight stainless steel pans produce more noise than heavier pans, like enameled cast iron.

I seem to be getting a lot of condensation on the face of my glass hood when using my induction cooktop, what can I do?

Induction cooktops are a very energy efficient way of cooking. They do not produce any heat themselves, but cause the pan to become hot through their electromagnetic induction. This lack of extraneous heat however does have a side effect in that there is no hot air, as you would find in a conventional electric or gas cooktop, to warm any cold surfaces that water vapour from what is being cooked may come into contact with. Consequently, some of the water vapour and steam produced by the cooking process will condense on these cold surfaces. The amount of condensation on any particular surface will depend on many factors including the ambient temperature in the kitchen, the ambient temperature of the surfaces, the thickness and material from which the surface is made and the type of cooking.

Ovens
My oven won't switch on. What should I do?

Check the fuse box. Check that the power switch is turned on and that the plug is properly plugged into the power socket. Also verify that the Child Safety feature is not activated. To unlock it, hold down the knob as indicated in the instruction booklet.

Is it true that an oven can smell during first use?

A new oven, when first switched on, always emits odour due to manufacturing residues. Before starting to use it for cooking food, it is good practice to heat the empty oven at maximum temperature for about 1 hour, opening a window to ventilate the room.

Do I need to preheat the oven before inserting the food to be cooked?

Always preheat the oven before inserting the food to be cooked. Preheating is used to prevent vapour accumulation inside the oven cavity. In some models of FRANKE ovens the preheating is automatically made, an acoustic signal will indicate the time when you can start cooking the food.

When the cooking is finished, is it normal for the fan oven to continue working?

The oven cooling fan continues to work for a while even after it is switched off, to decrease the internal temperature quicker.

What is the best way to choose the correct cooking function?

To identify the most suitable function for cooking different foods, please refer to the instructions booklet included with your FRANKE oven.In the booklet the various cooking functions are clearly described in detail, depending on the type of food, the suggested cooking time, temperature and position of the pan.

What is the Pyrolytic function and how does it work?

A feature of some FRANKE ovens, the Pyrolytic function is an automatic cleaning function that, thanks to the high temperature reached, is able to burn off dirt and grease on the cavity walls. Throughout the pyrolytic process, the door remains locked for total safety. At the end of the cycle, when the cavity has cooled down, it is sufficient to simply clean the interior by removing dirt and grease burned with a sponge and then with a microfibre cloth.

How often is it necessary to run a complete Pyrolytic cycle?

Under normal oven use, simply run the Pyrolytic function once a month. However, if you bake frequently or you bake large quantities of food, it is advisable to run the Pyrolytic cycle more frequently.

My baking does not seem to be even, what can I do?

Refer to the instruction manual and look at the cooking table detailed. Pay particular attention to the arrangement of the baking trays and the positioning on the correct shelves.

What is a multifunction oven?

A FRANKE multifunction oven combines all the main types of heating, such as top / bottom heating and ventilation, thus providing the optimal function for each application. Multifunction devices have many traditional cooking functions, for grilling, warming food, preheating and thawing foods.

My food has not cooked satisfactorily, what can I do?

Have you followed the suggestions contained in the instruction booklet? Care should be taken to choose the correct type of baking tray, the shelf and the selected program. Rotate the baking trays during cooking. It is important to read the instruction booklet and follow the instructions carefully. Always preheat and bake only when the cooking temperature is reached (wait for the thermostat to turn off). For desserts, it is recommended that the temperature is between 150 and 190°C, and do not open the door during cooking to prevent the dough from sinking.

My pie seems to have burned on top, what should I do?

Try placing the pie on a lower shelf height, set a lower temperature, and extend the cooking time.

What are telescopic guides in ovens used for?

The telescopic guides provided on some models of FRANKE ovens allow you to easily introduce and extract safely baking trays or grids, as well as more conveniently control cooking.

What does the term 'Cool Door' mean?

The definition 'Cool Door' indicates that during use, the oven door remains at a temperature significantly lower than required by regulations. This is achieved through the use of effective ventilation systems and heat-reflecting glass.

What are the characteristics of a Combination Steam Oven?

A steam oven combines the use of water vapour with traditional cooking methods. Franke's Combined Steam Oven Technology originates from professional catering ovens, which, unlike most homemade products, have a real boiler for vapour generation, which is then controlled in a controlled manner in the cooking chamber. The combination of steam and forced convection (ventilated cooking function) allows different programs that make this oven particularly useful.

For more traditional cooking, specific programs for raising bread and cake, or prolonged cooking at low temperatures, are also available.

Franke's Combination Steam Oven does not need to be connected to the water supply.

How do I clean my oven control panel?

Use glass cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. Pour the glass cleaner onto the cloth or sponge, do not spray it directly onto the control panel. Do not use abrasive detergents, steel wool, rough sponges, or some types of absorbent paper that could damage the surfaces.

Microwaves
Inside the microwave I see sparks during use.

Carefully clean the inside of the appliance, preferably with a detergent specifically for microwave ovens. Dirt and grease are the cause of sparks in the oven, as well as the use of metal elements. Be careful to only use dishes and containers suitable for microwave use.
