With a total of 145,000 visitors, the international furniture fair held in Cologne once again achieved very positive results. It was striking that the high proportion of overseas visitors, especially those from Asia, took the opportunity to acquaint themselves with current home and kitchen trends. It was immediately obvious that the masterly mixture of different materials still dominates current kitchen design.

Highlights of the fair: aluminium surfaces modules
efficient use of space
Metallic surfaces primarily aluminium combined with semitransparent burnished glass and various woods, in particular beech, bright and lightly limed oak and and cherry tree determined the trend amongst the materials. In terms of colour, on the other hand, traditional white, in addition to the warm currently popular beige-sand, porcelain, balsam and avocado, as well as the old favourites, khaki, olive and brown, is coming into the modern kitchen. |

"Efficient use of space" via intelligent internal division of drawers and cupboards was likewise one of the main themes of this, the world's largest furniture fair. As a result of new coating technologies greater dimensions and possibilities are available for the use of existing space. Wider drawers, deeper work boards (70 to 80 cm) and new work heights (95, 100 and 105 cm) played a special role for many manufactures.Multi-functional furniture and flexible-use container furniture remain very current. |

Breaking up rigid systems creates space for increased mobility and multi-functioanality. Cologne also saw occasional examples of the kitchen as a new "communications centre" in which groceries can be ordered online or recipes downloaded directly to the kitchen via an integrated flatscreen. Amongst the most outstanding themes, such as the "aluminium trend" for surfaces, open interior design based on the use of modular and movable elements and that of the "efficient use of space", Franke presented interesting and new developments in the sink, preparation and waste disposal areas.
New: Franke sinks in "FRAGRANIT Silver" in ideal harmony with the new aluminium surfaces
In keeping with the current aluminum trend Franke offers sinks in silver FRAGRANIT. This colour effect is the result of a lavish production process in which fine aluminium particles are added to the granite composite. The result is an elegant silver gray tone which harmonizes well with all aluminium surfaces. The sink colours are complemented by fittings and wastepipes with matt aluminium coloured surfaces and matching accessory attachments of transparent synthetic material.
Franke kitchen modules make a flexible layout of the sink and preparation areas possible
The new trend in furnishing the move away from fitted kitchens to flexible solutions involving movable modules is done justice to with Franke's new sink and preparation area modules in high-grade steel. These system building blocks can be combined in any way, rearranged without problem, added to, combined anew, and can be adapted to any change in room layout at any time. The high-grade steel modules developed following professional kitchen technology are available in numerous designs. As a result the sink modules are available as "one, one-and-a-half or two" basin versions. The same goes for the preparation area modules, available with or without waste disposal in 60 or 90 cm breadths. All modules have a standard depth of 610 mm, but are also available on request in 660, 710 and 900 mm vesions. Thanks to the small projection and the 50s frieze the module elements, which can simply be placed onto the body of the base, can be combined with every edge type and every work board material. This offers the ideal solution to the problem of efficiently modernizing sink and preparation areas of older kitchens. |
