Waste Management

What family size would suit the 0.5HP and the 0.75HP Waste Disposer?

A general recommendation is that a family of four should purchase the 0.5HP and larger families the 0.75HP, however, practically, it is dependent upon the volume of food being disposed of.

Why buy a Food Waste Disposer?
  • The average person generates just under a quarter of a kilogram of food waste per day. Of this waste at least 75% can be processed through a food waste disposer. Therefore an average family of four produces nearly 300 kilograms of food waste per year.
  • The Food Waste Disposer allows for discarding leftovers in a simple and quick manner by throwing scraps straight from the chopping board or dinner plate into the sink, to be disposed of immediately. It couldn’t be easier or more hygienic and it saves many trips to the rubbish bin outside

Is the Disposer safe and easy to use?

Definitely, turn on the cold water, switch on the disposer, and then feed the scraps into the opening. The disposer grinds various food waste into tiny pellets and paste, flushing it straight through your plumbing into the sewage system.

What about being environmentally friendly?
  • A Waste Disposer gets rid of food waste responsibly while reducing the problems of collection and landfill. Food particles are carried in suspension through the normal waste pipes to the treatment plant for possible recycling (as agricultural fertilizer).
  • Further processing food waste through a food waste disposer into a publicly owned treatment works, has the lowest cost for the municipality and has the least air emissions, especially green house gases.

Can the Disposer fit to any waste outlet?
  • No. The Franke Food Waste Disposer is designed to fit easily into almost any new or existing sink with a 90mm waste outlet.
  • Note: a plumber might be able to punch a 90mm hole through a 38mm outlet in order to accommodate a waste disposer, but this depends entirely on where the outlet is situated in the sink bowl.

Is the Food Waste Disposer easy to install?
  • The unit is compact enough to sit under the sink leaving plenty of storage space especially if attached to a Franke Spazio plumbing kit and adds very little weight overall.
  • A set of comprehensive, step-by-step instructions are included with each unit to guide the plumber or handy man through the installation process. The waste disposer’s mounting system makes connection to your sink fast and simple.
  • It is recommended that a separate switch is installed on the wall to enable a more convenient method of switching the unit on and off. Or alternatively an air switch is installed.

What food waste can be disposed of?
  • Various food waste items can be handled by the disposer with ease.
  • fruit and vegetable matter.
  • nuts
  • egg shells
  • meat
  • fish and chicken bones
  • pasta, noodles and rice
  • Hard bones and woody fruit kernels (such as a peach stone) are NOT advised.
